As a minister I feel like I have a special connection with those that I shared the gospel with and baptized. The last people I baptized in Millersburg were Dave and Tammy. Even today, a few years later, I want to know how they are doing. When I run into someone from Millersburg I ask. It matters to me that they stay faithful. I can identify with Paul’s comment: “For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 3:8). Why does he feel that way? Why do I feel this way? I suppose it’s […]

Failures and setbacks are a part of life. I watched a football game last night that featured a quarterback throwing interception after interception. These mistakes were one of the main reasons he lost that game. However, I suspect he will be back on the field the next game trying again. Why will he go back? I would much rather see a Christian who is confident in the […]

I want to take a moment and celebrate something wonderful with you. Our sister Sheryl Prosise has been struggling with illness for some time. For a long period she was too ill to attend church services. And so she did what reasonable Christian people do: she asked for prayers. Which we of course, by command, are happy to give. “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18). We prayed, and I could not fail to […]

In the excellent football move “Facing the Giants” a grandfather gives his grandson some wise advice. The grandson had just started playing football and he became the team’s kicker. However, on his first opportunity to kick a field goal he missed. He tells his grandfather “I knew I was going to miss it before I even kicked it.” His grandfather replies: “David, your actions will always follow your beliefs.” I think that’s true! If you think you’re probably going to fail you’re probably going to fail. That’s why we need to face our lives with courage. We need to believe […]
