In August, David preached several sermons on the state of the church and what we can do about it. A real quick summary is that the church is in decline and what we need to do about it is share the love of Christ in an evangelistic way. I have often thought about what hinders me from evangelizing or keeps me from evangelizing as much or as effectively as I should. What is the root cause?
In today’s cultural climate, there is a lot of chaos. For the extreme polarization of our politics to the forcing of deviant lifestyles into our consciousness, to the race-baiting of the critical race theorists, to the defund the police movement, there is just so much chaos and uncertainty. How are we to find our footing and even grow in this environment?
In our congregation, two families are moving away at the same time. You may be asking, wasn’t there enough change going on, you had to add this too?? Will the Lincoln Park congregation survive all this change? More important will the Lincoln Park congregation grow and thrive through this upheaval?
I believe the answer to these three challenges is the same. The question is, how do we grow in every season?
