We sing a song during worship titled “Where Could I Go?” The song looks at some of life’s most important issues such as facing temptation. It then asks the question, “Where could I go but to the Lord?” God is a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
In II Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat and the Israelites had a great army of Moabites, Ammonites and others coming against them. Jehoshaphat feared this army so he turned towards God for help. He offered up a prayer to God in verses 6-12. He finished that prayer by saying this, “nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You”. Jehoshaphat admitted that he didn’t know what to do, but he knew that God would know. As the story turns out, God answers and tells Jehoshaphat that he will not even have to fight the battle, because it was God’s to fight.
God delivered His people that day because they turned to Him for help. God has also promised to help us today. I Peter 5:7 says, “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”. James 5:16 reads, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Where do you turn in times of trouble? Do you look to family or friends? Do you try to handle everything on your own? God is our help and our strength, and we should seek Him in all that we do.
